What To Do?

The staff here at CSTeens has grown up in this town. We’ve watched it change from a place where there were once cow pastures (Target on Westview, for those who remember) to one where there are buildings, homes, schools and more everywhere you look. Yet despite all this, we still hear the same thing again and again – there is nothing to do in Coral Springs. So we’ve put together some items for you and your friends to try out. We’ll start with the obvious choices, then give you some creative ideas.

The Walk – This strip is packed full of places to dine and relax with friends. Enjoy a meal at any of the restaurants, then head for some sweet treats at the shop that always smells so fantastic (toasted coconut ice cream is a must-try). For some post-eating fun, stop into the bookstore there. It sounds corny, but you can take some titles off the shelves and look through them with friends. Our favorite is looking through the comedy books and getting a good laugh. If we’re still feeling thirsty, there is a café inside the store or we walk across the street for a Frappucino with extra whipped cream.

Regal – We don’t have to tell you about this because, let’s face it, we’re all probably hanging out at the movies on Friday and Saturday nights. But we do have one request – stay calm. Sometimes we see our classmates getting a little rowdy, and we want to enjoy movies in peace.

Saveology.com Iceplex – You can free skate on certain nights or take in an adult-league hockey game. It’s faster and more furious than the professionals, if you can believe it. For a list, visit http://www.saveologyiceplex.com/index.php.

CS Gymnasium – There are open play hours and a ton of recreation classes – everything from kickboxing to yoga. Check out CoralSprings.org/recreation for a list.

Parks – There are some really nice parks in town, and they are all great locations to run around and play, walk or have a picnic with friends. Those are all fun options, but we especially like to picnic. You can make a potluck or get take-out from your favorite local restaurant. Do it before it gets too hot.

Museums and culture – The Coral Springs Museum of Art has some fascinating exhibits that are definitely worth checking out. Broadway plays and other acts come to the Center for the Arts, and ticket prices are not too high. For more, visit www.csmart.org or www.coralspringscenterforthearts.com.

Stay in – We know, we know, this sounds crazy, but it is a lot of fun sometimes. Get your friends to come over and watch a movie, watch the game, play a game – anything. We like to cook (Gourmet Guru is a great baker!) then just hang out. Sometimes it’s nice to relax with friends and not have to spend a ton of money.

Go somewhere – We know, this is counter to giving you things to do in Coral Springs, but that’s okay – sometimes we need to explore what’s around. We’re so lucky to be in driving distance to Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Boca and West Palm. Find museums or events in those cities and check them out.
